FAQ

Part of the joy of my work is that no two projects are the same, so I cannot give a one price fits all answer.

There are three parts to my fee.

Part one is the creative fee:
Covers planning, set up and breakdown of all necessary equipment, my creative expertise capturing images on site, image culling and delivery of proof images.

Part two is a retouching fee:
Charged per final image. Editing often takes as long or longer than shooting images.

Part three is a licensing fee:
Charged per final image. Licensing determines where and how you may use the images, and that usage determines the fee.

As of July 2026

Creative fee for one day of shooting starts at: $1000

Per delivered image retouch fee: $25

Per image standard licensing fee: $100

One full day is a minimum of 8 final images or $2000.

One basic day shooting, 15 photos fully retouched and delivered with a standard license $2875

For small projects, 2 hours on-site including 2 licensed images $550

Pre-Shoot Scouting

If a client, or project, needs scouting, I will bill for the time spent on location along with any travel expenses. After the scout I will prepare a shot list and contact sheet with lightly edited photos and for review and planning.

Travel and Mileage

For sites more than a certain distance from my base, mileage is calculated per mile to cover travel efficiently and fairly.

If project is “out of area” airfare, hotel, car rental, meals, etc. will be billed at cost.

Photographer’s Assistant

Architectural photography often involves complex setups, from managing lighting equipment to handling props or ensuring safety on site. My assistant plays a crucial role in streamlining the process. The assistant’s fee covers a standard workday, supporting me in tasks like equipment transport, setup, and real-time adjustments to capture those perfect shots of your masterpieces. Overtime may apply.

There is a very large potential discount available in the form of cost sharing. Cost Sharing is a very common practice when photographing architecture and interior projects. By bringing in an additional party you can save over 30% on the architectural photography of your project. Discounts increase for each additional party brought into the photo shoot.

For each additional party brought into the cost share in advance of the shoot, we will add 40% to the total photo shoot cost. From there, the total is shared evenly between all parties resulting in a large discount.

Cost Sharing Example: If a photo shoot is estimated at $2,750, and one party is added as a cost share, the total becomes $3,850 ($2,750 + 40%). The new cost per-party is $1,925. You save $825.

Examples of companies that often want access to the photos include: architects, interior designers, landscape architects, sub-contractors, materials vendors, furniture vendors, owners/tenants.

All photos are the copyrighted work of the photographer. I register every photo I deliver with the US Copyright Office, and I retain all rights to the photos. As a client, you are provided with a License to use the photos.

You are already accustomed to a licensing model. When you “buy” a song through Apple Music, you don’t actually own the song, but rather, you own a license to listen to the song on any of your personal devices for your own entertainment. Likewise, you don’t own Microsoft Excel. You own a license to use the software. Photos are the same.

I include a standard usage license with every photo. This usage includes what most design businesses need every day, such as website, social media, architecture and design competition entries, internal uses, including proposals, printed collateral, such as brochures, and in office wall displays. This is a perpetual license that does not expire. Additional usage, such as paid advertising or editorial use will require additional licensing, which can be added up front or anytime in the future.
